Dressing Up Rags

2 Corinthians 4:16,1816Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 18 So we fix out eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
The art of dressing up our heart has become a regular act in our society. We subconsciously dress ourselves up in church. We are consistently fighting to prevent others seeing our possible weakness. They’ll never see your ugliness because it’s church, we’re supposed to be dressed up and presented accordingly, right? We would rather dress and impress folks with our outer appearance, while our soul is completely bare. There have been countless Sunday’s that I did not attend church simply because, I didn’t have the right clothes.
Reality is the problem is deeper than our clothes. It was the need of my inner being; my soul was seriously running dry. In result, at times I would run from the church. Placing our hope and trust in the things that we can grasp will eventually fade away. Those clothes will eventually go out of style. The people we’re attempting to impress at church may be led to another church home. We fail to realize that these same people are fighting the same fight we are. It’s okay to feel uncomfortable; it’s actually the best thing that can happen to us. In these uncomfy moments Jesus comes and bursts into our lives, elevating Himself. He shows us that regardless of how fitting those clothes may be, they’re still filthy rags when our hope isn’t renewed in Him.
Our bodies are diminishing away with each breath that we take. We pump our bodies with momentarily satisfying foods. Our entire existence is timely; as we fill our physical stomachs our spiritual belly’s are empty. How long has your spirit been dry?
Side effects of anything being dry usually consist of being easily broken, unstable, and weak, does this sound familiar? Though our outward bodies are growing old, inwardly we have the availability to consistently be renewed. The thoughts that you were just made this way are lies. You are more than your looks. You are more than designer labels. You are more than a title. You are more, you have purpose! Your Father is the Creator of the universe, which can be pretty overwhelming I know. But, the thing is we aren’t seeking to appeal our senses to these fleeting satisfactions. We are restored through Him.
Bringing fourth the reality that these misleading voids have been leading our lives, allows us to take those things out of His place in our hearts. The beauty of our lives being wholly rooted in Him despite what new fads life brings.
He remains on the throne of our hearts. He reigns true! He is our eternal fix, with our hope placed strategically within Him we will never fail, and although we may not have the best clothes, we are made whole through him.
